Feel so fed up now and not sure what to do.

Have had 2 vets out who have said different things about my mare, she had fall on monday first vet said she would be sore for few days but fine in few days time. He said give 2 danilon a day for 3 days as she was lame on left hind leg from fall. Carry on working her which i have done only in light work of walk and trot.

As she became lame on front end so called vets back out on friday however got different vet out. He watched her walk and trot up, then did flex tests and tight circles. He decided she was lame on front leg due to her shoes which are fine not worn done for once. Then said it was due to fall hitting her knee. As for the back end he had a feel however lets say he is afraid of horse so didnt get too close. Said different leg lame on right hind not left, she landed on left side not right. So his idea was keep working her, keep her on danilon for a week and only stop when she is sound again.

Now today i gave her a bath and had good feel of her legs. Past few days person who shares her had been grooming etc so ive only seen her lame in field, picked feet out but not had good check. So found a lump on left hind leg, fluid built up in it as well. She did not want me to touch it and she has a high pain freshold normally. Now i dont think this came up overnight. Its by her fetlock, area the vet didnt really feel.

So not sure what to do shame it wasnt the same vet to come back who knew what happened and saw her on monday to compare. Any ideas welcome, do i call vet out again? Point out to vet he missed lump which im guessing is reason of lameness? Leave her on danilon for another week. Or what back person suggested lol leave her tied up at vets so may find out whats going on. As she is still lame on danilion not sure what to make of it, normally if she goes lame or stiff 2 days of danilon always brings her sound.

If second vet is a horse vet I'd be a little concerned that he didn't like going round the back legs, if he's a general vet I think I could understand it a bit. I would go with your gutt instinct on which vet you trust the most and get them back out, ring the practice and say you are not happy with opinion of vet and ask for the vet you trust to come out. Having said this if it is a general vet practice I would probably see if you had an equine vets in your area and use them. In the mean time lots of cold hosing and keep your mare moving about even if you have to walk her out in hand, if the swelling starts to travel up the leg get the vet out straight away.
Hope she gets better soon xxx

Thanks the practice is just for equines, have been cold hosing and using massage boots as well to help as soon as i found it. Will ring vets again and see what they say.

was it nick who cam out second time, very small petite chap? i would just give nicko a ring directly and say you arnt happy and would like him to come back out and take a look.

Yep it was thing is normally nick has been ok for me anyway. Need to speek to dawn in morn so was going to tell her, and see what she says. It was nicko out first time, and ideal i would have had him or tim out.

iv never rated nick! i found him abit useless tbh when i did a lameness work up on prince, it was like drawing blood from a stone! il only have nicko or tim. defo have one of those back out to take a look at her.

see he was really good when we had ulcers and colic called to check up on her etc sorted everything out. Came out for the scope as well when they dont have to. But yep your right not so much for lameness. Last year all 4 saw her for lameness and only those 2 said lame etc. Other 2 were like normal for her as she has funny actions at times. Just hope its one of those 2 i get out next time.

Oh yes that feeling drawing blood from a stone, had nick out second day i owned this mare, and he didnt give any answers at all to me or YO. Ok so legal issues of how the hell she passed a vetting and then lame on the same day soon as she got home. Well he took bloods but they werent sent off until 2 days after...

when i ring up the practice i usually say can i have nicko out for such and such, they dont ever say no il send out someone else. hope its nothing to serious!

That was lucky its nicko on call today so just spoke to him, he thinks from fall didnt say a lot just in a normal horse to stable and bandage well. However as she has to be walking as has spavins etc. So shes out with bandages on and turnout boots on top, will also carry on doing lots of cold hosing as well. Ponies for you cause so many problems!
