My mare who is never lame has gone lame this weekend on her hind left , she doesnt want to walk on stones to her stable and really stumbly , shes ok in her stable but doesnt want to bare too much weight on it, also her hoof wall is red like bruised? Will call vet tomorrow if no better. Shes fine in herself eating etc but wondered if anyone had any ideas!!!xx

My pony became lame on her right fore. It started off on hard or stoney ground (she'd prance around the field going mental and not showing any lameness) but going to and from field on the concrete and stones she would become sensitive and 7/10ths lame. Now she's hopping lame on hard ground and I've put her on box rest, definitely think its hoof bruising and no heat/swelling in leg and always the same foot, she's also got quite poor conformation (flat feet) so think she's quite prone to bruising. I have just got her on box rest with hand walking till she becomes sound again but have been told having shoes on helps as lifts sole off floor so if it becomes a recurrent thing that might be an idea.
Otherwise could be an abcess?

My mare was the same. Sound on soft ground, tender over hard/stoney ground. She alos appeared to have a tender sole.

She has been diagnosed with a torn suspensory ligament in the off-fore. Be aware.
