Bruno has small healing scabs on both front fetlocks (see previous post ' fetlock abrasions'. He had been slightly lame with some heat and swelling which went down when turned out. This had resolved and he was sound yesterday so I lunged in the sand school and everything was fine.

I brought him in this evening with the intention of riding and he's lame and I mean lame

There is no heat or swelling and I have palpated all the way up and down his leg; no knocks or bumps that I can find. His feet seem fine and he was only shod a week ago

Last year he was envloved in a car accident and his only injuries were similar in position to these scabs that he has now. Can a horse become highly sensitive in an area of previous injury? Any ideas would be appreciated as I'd rather not call the vet if it's likley that Bruno has just become even more sensitive than he previously was

i would defently look into sofrt tissue like suspensory as it in that area and they dont have to have any heat or swelling in that area some arnt even lame some only very slightly have a look on net and she what you think can be diagnosed via ultrasound i would get vet to see her.

good luck

my horse was lame with suspensory ligament damage - and he had no heat, no swelling, no nothing. It was initially put down to being arthritus ... but a full lameness workup at vet hospital revealed suspensory ligament damage very high up in his knee

This first occured a yar last august and he managed to re-injure it again in March when his loanee lunged him (which she wasn't supposed to do as vets said area would always be weak)
