Please dont jump on me!
Well tonight i brought my boy in and we had a little inhand trot in the field and he was lame :( so i asked my friend to just have a look while i trotted him up on the hard surface he wasnt lame in walk just trot no heat in his legs or feet but while checking his shoulder he put his ears back and moved away turned him in a tight circle and he was happy to step under himself and use his shoulder put him in his stable and he was quite happy munching away.A new horse has gone into our field and the fields are rock hard with no rain so im not sure if hes being running round? Also yesterday the stable door shut on him as he was walking in .. it didnt slam but did catch him
anyone know what i am looking at ? whats best to do was planning on getting the vet on friday if hes no better also going to put him in one of our little sick paddocks tomorrow or is he best staying in?

As a general feeling, I usually go by if there is no sign of injury, swelling or heat then the lameness is either muscular or something within the hoof like a brewing foot abscess. He is happy letting you lift each foot? Can you feel any digital pulses?

See how he is in the morning and if he is hoping lame in the morning, I would suspect abscess so farrier or vet to investigate/drain

yes he was happy to let us lift each foot and have a prod ect il have to ask my friend as shes much more clued up on these things than me and my other horse had decided to pull over his water bucket so i was dealing with that but she said his feet were not hot and he only seemed bothered when you pushed on his shoulder he was happy for me to brush him all over will check him in the morning and get the vet to be on the safe side :)

i did consider this as he is the "boss" of the field and does join in with the odd fight but would there be a mark?his shoulder isnt very warm either i mean more than normal
ohh why do we have horses!!

My horse was kicked in the shoulder last summer. I only knew cause I saw it happen. It didn't leave a mark but Bertie was lame for a few days afterwards. I couldn't feel any heat, but it was the only thing we could think of. Thankfully after a few days he was back to his normal self. Good luck xx
