Theoretical question, H is not lame but......... If your horse lived out 24/7 but you had access to a stable. He is lame in 2 legs, would you turn out or keep stables.

I am just wondering on peoples opinions

Please explain your decision.

I used to instantly stable a horse that was lame, but since moving yards I turn out so the legs are still getting natural movement.

It totally depends on what sort of lameness - some things I prefer to leave out in a small corral and others, although I am not a fan of box-rest, I do realise that this is by far the best thing for certain lameness issues.

PS. I didn't vote as poll was not specific enough.

Didn't vote, Would go on vets advice which is normaly kept to normaly routine, Unless tendons or something which needs total rest. Often theres swelling which would get worse if stabled.

What about when foot sore Tia, or anyone?

Again, it would depend on why the horse was footsore and what the treatment involved. If poultice was involved then I would stable, other things I'd leave out in a small corral.

Thanks Guys, it is believed to be a tedon, vet not involved, is on 2 butes. Is currently out as normal. not my horse I would like to add

just wondered

I had 2 with tendon/ligament issues; both were kept out and both are sound again. Took about 3 months to totally come 100% sound, would likely have been quicker if horses were stabled, but not something I would choose to do for this, to be honest. Not that there is anything wrong with box resting for this issue though - just not something I would stable for.

IMO it depends on the severity of the lameness and the type of tendon injury. Also the work the horse is expected to do once it is sound again. I have had horses with tendon injuries before - a 10hh pony who lived out with a ruptured tendon and was fine, but a LR pony isn't expected to perform to a high standard, and a TBx with a strained tendon who had to have box rest really for it to heal properly. Depends entirely on the situation i think
