Hi. My horse showed up with sudden onset of lameness, no heat and vet suggested to try a poultice. Pus came out and horse nowhere near as lame. But found to be lame on lunge on leg with absess. Took to vets and nerve block of foot was negative. Now waiting the 4 1/2 weeks for lameness assessment at equine hospital. Trying a course of Trimed antibiotics on advice of vets. Nothing showed on scan but there is a strange circular very raised structure, ( not vertical downwards but across the legl)scan didnt help to say what it is. Vets came out twice but they don't think it was there before the absess. But hard to tell as covered by his feather. Not on other leg. Vet said not a vein. Anyone ever had anything g like this happen after an absess?

My friends horse trotted up slightly lame a fortnight or so after an abscess. We put another poultice on just to see if there was a bit more infection and within 24 hours there was foul green gunk from the coronet band.

Our YO at the time was a fan of poulticing for 48 hours before calling the vet and that time he felt jusified. Is there any chance yours still has infection? Could that lump be the remains of an infection pocket ?

Could you clip off the feather to examine the lump better? Is it possible that there is a thorn or similar causing it?

Sorry, I'm just getting to grips with how to post. Made another thread as wasn't sure first one posted. Called second one absess 4 weeks. Posted an image just now. It's on the lower end of cannon bone, but above paster. Size of a slug. Wraps around the leg, so csnt be a tendon. Everyone thinks it wasn't there before absess, but he had thick feather, which is now shaved. Vet on scanning it said it wasn't a vein. Said it feels quite solid. Put another poultice on for past 2 days and a little more of the grey gunk came out and I think it is starting to smell again. Another poultice on today. Just really worried obviously, but can't get to equine hospital yet as waiting list is 4 1/2 weeks!
