Could a lameness from joint inflammation come on overnight? As in, sound the night before and 5/10th lame when brought in from the field overnight?

Horse is off to the vet tomorrow for further investigation, I'm just running through possibilities in my head. 18 months ago he has his coffin joint (same foot) injected due to inflammation but the lameness came on gradually and he was only around 2/10th lame on it then.

I don't know if this helps at all but could it be bursitis or synovitis?

Bursitis is trauma to bursa (sac which secretes lubricating fluid) by a joint. An acute bursitis can cause lameness. This happened on a friends horse.

Synovitis which is also called serous arthritis may be another cause. The symptoms are swollen fluid filled joint which is normally due to stress or injury. Its also called acute synovitis but doesn't always lead to DJD.
