just had 2nd vet visit for lame horse (only when ridden) nerve blocked bad leg from fetlock down and he was still lame. she has had he now either needs to go in for further nerve blockings from higher up then x rays once they know roughly where pain is or send him for bone scans at another hospital. what should i do? i wish someone could tell me roughly what they think is wrong just so i had an idea what i was dealing with or the severity of it

My experience with nerve blocking with one of my horses was that it didn't work - the lameness was definitely in the lower leg - confirmed by visible injury and later on by a vet professor. My other horse was recently lame and was booked into the vet for nerve blocking but before she got there I had the farrier out and he put remedial shoes on her - slightly longer to support the heal and slightly wedged - guess what sound within 3 weeks!! I know every case is different but it depends on your insurance - if you're covered you might as well use it. My horse has a needle phobia so was glad to find out the farrier could sort it for me.

If he was my horse I would be getting somebody out with the thermal imageing camera now to find the area off pain. Fantasic machine and cheap. £50 for full body you can than show the images to your vet. Although it was a vet who done mine anyway. Google the inner picture for more detail and pics but can't rate this highly enough and any problems with mine now that's the way I go.

Surely if the vets had any idea what was wrong with your horse they would say! If it needs to go for a bone scan or xray then send it for one ( providing you have insurance cover of course!) That way you will find out for sure.
