So.. schooled sunday, lunged Monday and Wed and sound and then rode out today. She felt fine mounting then rode to gate. As tried to open it my 4 year old spooked and shot forward with my groom and we all danced on the stoney bit by the gate. my mare hobbled for a couple of strides.

She was fine out on the road then felt lame in trot my groom checked her feet and said OK. She still wasn't right so came home and I picked out her feet and found two smallish stones in the off fore that my 'groom'had missed.

turned her out and she looked quite lame in trot but chose to trot herself. groom then said she thought she looked short LAST WEEK (shouts that bit as hadn't told me)

This evening she's happy to have joints rotated, cantered off up the field and then was fine to have all feet picked up and turns tightly on both reins. Buts she's still short.

was it the stones do you think?

Am inclined to say briusing and leave her a couple of days before making any vet calls. Given my grooms inability to see the stones in her feet think her comment about last week is nonsense since I worked her myself sat and sun and thought she was fine.

I am having this trouble too, mare did something in field, but looked sound on the straight just lame on the turn. So I gave her one week's box rest, then she looked sound on the longe in sand, sound on turns and on hard, then with daughter on, went lame on the turn in soft only. So I am hoping its bruising and giving her one further week turned out.

If its not a welfare case (as my back lady said!) then don't necessarily go straight for vet if you reckon that they'll say to do what you're doing anyway.

We all bruise ourselves or twist our ankles or bang something from time to time and go a bit lame don't we? So couple of weeks off have to happen now and again! x
