Lameness query

My horse has been lame on/off for a few weeks now in 1 foot (in trot). Its not every stride thoug or it wasnt. Today he was lame. More than the odd stride and when walked back to stables he was very tender on it. Vet came out before xmas and said some grit had got in the previous abscess hole and to hot tub for 2 days and gave me a weeks worth of bute. He had his feet done last week. She didnt say anything about his abscess hole. Ive restarted hot tubbing him. Hes barefoot and lives out. Any ideas what this is? Has anyone experienced this with their horse?

sounds as if the hole may have got reinfected which could lead to another abscess, it's happened to my horse twice last year. I have hopefully overcome this by keeping the hoof covered and as clean as is possible for at least 10 days post abscess.

ah right. My trimmer said it could be another abscess and to poultice it again.

Sounds like another abcess.

Hot tub and pultice it.
You might even need to get the farrier to test the hoves and open a drainage hole.
