Hi there,
I'm just looking for some advice on my lame horsey. Touch wood, over the years I've been lucky enough to have very sound horses so am not very clued up on lameness!
So about 5 weeks ago my boy came in from the all weather turnout with a missing shoe on the near fore. Rode him for 3 days in the sand arena, as he's never been footy when missing a shoe in the past, and he was grand. The fourth day in trot he felt uneven so I rested him for a week. In the meantime the farrier came to replace the shoe. After a few more days of rest he was still lame on trot up, so i got the farrier to have a look at him while he was in the yard doing another horse. He was 90% sure it was a stone bruise. There was some heat just on the coronet band. Pouticing didn't produce anything.
Another week passed and still the same level of lameness, so we called the vet. He was also fairly sure it was a stone bruise. He came sound with a nerve block in that foot. There was still a little heat. More poluticing still didn't produce anything so we've stopped that now.
So it's 2 weeks on again and still the same amount of lame! The heat is gone though. Throughout this he's been in his stable with about 2-4 hours of turnout a day in a small, soft sand turnout. He has managed to get a good run and buck in it though 😖🙈 he's getting progressively hotter and silly without work so im afraid he'll do more damage to himself either out or in the stable, even with cutting his feed way back.
So my question is has anyone experienced anything like this before? Any stone bruise I've experienced has cleared up pretty quickly, or the lameness got more severe and came to head with an abscess. 5 weeks seems like a very long time to me? I have him booked in for scans at the end of the week as I'm starting to get worried with the lameness a plateau.
Google is not my friend! It has me worried of all sorts of soft tissue damage and coffin / pedal fractures!!!!! 😨😱
