Hi folks, hoping I can get some advice here for my girl who went lame on her front left after farrier visit, thought it was possibly just footsore so called farrier out and he tested everything, no heat, mare just stood quietly while he put all his weight on testers etc... he suggested that because her hooves had grown a lot since last visit it was because she had lifted her heels after this time and was compensating for shift in balance and possibly pulled her shoulder? (hope that makes sense?) I phoned vet who had only been out for booster 2 weeks before and she gave me some bute and advised no riding for a week, Mare has skin problems and getting on a bit, so arthritis as well, so box rest a nono!
Its been a week and a bit now and I tried her out last night in school, not lame at all in walk, but trot she goes all "pottery" on the left front skipping and tripping, my hubby thinks she needs to work through it as she is quite stiff when first ridden, and very lazy, but I'm really worried I'll make things worse, although after a couple of tries in trot she did seem to be getting better!! When she goes in the field no problem although she is always last when the girls are running round like mad things!!
