My horse has been going lame off and on.

It always appears to be worse after exercise and then after some rest he will come sound again? The farrier had a look at him and has said he believe's it to be a foot abcess!!
Is it a symptom of an abcess for the horse to go lame after exercise? or something more severe do you think?

It could be an abscess. During one of my mare's many abscesses, she was sound when she came out of her stable (stabled overnight) and then went lame after she had been turned out and had a bit of a run about the field. The on/off lameness happened to her too but she eventually went hopping lame, then it burst and she was sound as soon as it popped.

ETA. If you are worried, talk to your Vet and let them know what the farrier said.

Thanks..he is on loan at the moment and i am only mirroring what the loanee has said. I think she is going to treat it as an abscess and see how he goes, Then get the vet.

I had just never heard of an abscess causing intermittent lameness!!
