I have a mare who is 5 years old, was broken when she was four and has never been rushed in any way. She had a proper saddle fitting when she was four. Three months after this she appeared short behind. But only when ridden and trotted soundly when not under saddle. I had the vet out to take a look but found nothing wrong! They done flexion tests and she was 100%. But would not let me get on her to show them the actual problem! I got given danilon and told to keep her in for a week but she was still the same. This problem has lasted a matter of months now. She has seen the phyiso on numerous occasions and suggests that she may have pulled a muscle along her back in the field and whilst a badly fitted saddle did not help the situation. The physio was very helpful and gave me lots of exercises and massage techniques to do. I have followed her instructions fully but now a year later I am no further forward! She gets lunged 3-4 times a week and is full of life bouncing and bucking and is not unhappy in anyway! Has anyone else has a similar situation?

So she is only lame when saddled and ridden?

Is she sound if you ride bareback?

Does she have a properly fitting saddle now?

Has anyone mentioned getting her spine x-rayed to rule out KS?
