A few weeks ago i posted about a pony who was slightly lame/pottery in one fore leg and we had the farrier look at him when he was shod and he used hoof testers and found nothing wrong only that he was stiff (he's an old pony - 24yrs old) he suggested keeping him out of the deep mud and taking him for a walk to try and loosen him up... 4 days after the farrier seeing him he got much much lamer in walk, the ho who is also the yo told me to give him some bute and see how he went, he was still lame on bute, the only thing we could find on his leg was a insect bite on the back of his tendon which had been weeping. I cleaned it up and polticed it to get the bite out - which it did, 24hours later and the whole bottom half of his leg had swollen, continuing with the bute the swelling slowly went, all the time the pony neither getting any better or any worse. Finally i managed to talk the ho in to calling the vet which i know should have been much sooner. The vet used hoof testers and He has a very sore patch on the bottom of his hoof, possibly an abcess or bruise or a fractured p3 (pedal) bone, the vet removed his shoe and pared some sole away and polticed his hoof and told me to change it every other day for aweek, he said to give bute and acp to widen blood vessels in his leg as vet said slightly lame in the other leg and possibly starting of laminitus. So a week later, after being on 24/7 box rest on shavings he's walking much better but wont trot when trotted up. but he's got a bulge appearing on the top of his coronet band.... has anyone got any ideas???? Vet due again Friday also the fetlock joint is slightly swollen and warm, and he appears to be putting more weight back on it to alleviate it from the other fore leg that may have lami??? poor boy... but at least under vet now.... ok well done if you understand any of this!!!
