This morning I brought my horses in to feed after they had spent the night out, my mare ame in sound. I put fly spray and sun cream on etc and then turned her back out, she was fine. I went back to get the other to put out and in that space of time she appeared to of gone hopping lame on her back leg. I fetched her back in and as she was walking it started looking better, put her in the stable checked her over, checked hooves etc. I asked a experienced friend to take a look. When she came out the stable it looked awful again, completely on her toe then hopping to move along. After a few paces it looked a little better again.
I turned her back out as movement seemed to help. She isn't the type to tear around and is carefull.
It now looks when she walks like locking stifle? She will drag the toe and then when placing the foot the joint kind of clicks back down. There is no wound, obviouse injury, heat or swelling. Once the hoof is down she will bear weight on it. She is eating and looks happy otherwise. I have watched her through the day and at times I think oh it's much better, the 5 minuites later I look and she is hopping again.
Obviously if there is no improvement I will be calling the vet and will call them anyway on Monday to explain whats happened even if it is better just to see what it may of caused it.
But in the meanwhile does any one have any ideas what it could be? I thought locking stifle but didn't think it could come on all of a sudden?
