Just wondered if anyone has experienced this or can suggest anything?
I have a 13yr old tb mare, was raced a handful of times over point to point fences. She has been used as a hack/private horse with a bit of showjumping up to 1m 05.
I have only ever schooled at home and hacked with her, however due to pregnancy, intermittent lameness (now resolved) and an extreme bout of mud fever and cellulitis, this mare has not done a great deal in the past 4 years.
My question is: I have noticed recently (last two months) that when she gets up from laying down she is extremely lame on her Right leg, by the time shes gotten half way down the field shes fine. Have trotted her up on concrete after these episodes and she has been absolutely fine.
The only issue I have with that leg is, she doesn't seem to keep her shoe on, weve tried shoes and pads, wider shoes, no shoes, but nothing has worked.
I am trying to bring her back into work and just wondered if the vet should look at it, but seeing as shes fine after a few steps im a bit reluctant to get the vet out.
My other horse keeps his shoes on fine and the tb is not normally one for throwing shoes.
Thanks in advance!
