Hi there, looking for some opinions on what to do… (have also posted in vet/hoof care)

My horse was off on Thursday when I rode, I didn’t pick up on it being a lameness initially as I was riding in a new saddle so I put it down to that, he was throwing his head up on the right canter transitions, and was just generally very unhappy so I thought his saddle was nipping. I had a lesson the following day (used my old saddle which he was happy in previously) and it was then clear that he was 1 or 2/10ths lame in his right hind on tight circles, he was very reluctant to turn off the wall on the right rein. We thought it was somewhere between point of hip/SI and stifle area. We jumped the Sunday prior to the lameness and he was going brilliantly, had a flatwork lesson on the Wednesday and again went great so Thursday was a surprise.

Had an equine sports massage/body worker out on Saturday and she felt a tiny, very minimal amount of heat in his SI. Trotted him up and very mildly lame in a straight line, was actually quite hard to spot. Have decided to box rest him on Danilon for a couple of days, then will trot him up and see how he is moving, and hopefully turn out in the hope that he’s just tweaked himself in the field. While he was getting massaged he didn’t even flinch with any area being touched.

My question is, am I doing the right thing or should I have had the vet out by now? I normally get the vet out at the first sign of anything and everything out of the ordinary, but I feel it might be better letting it run its course for a few days to see if there is improvement?

Thanks in advance!
