Hi,
My ID has had bouts of lami for about 2 years on/off, we got a nasty bout in June which resulted him in being diagnosed with EMS. I am completely terrified of this ever happening again, as i dont think i would want to put him through another 6 months box rest.
With summer up and coming i would like advice on whats best of him, this is what we are currently doing-
* fed on hi-fi lite & low cal
* Goes on the walker daily for 30 mins
* Turned out in a starvation paddock for 2-3 hours (hes 19 and gets stiff if left in)
* Has a small haynet (soaked hay) when he comes in at 1pm.
* Then has another net at about 5pm when the staff leave
* I ride 3-4 times a week, hacking and schooling, will be more in the summer
* He is shod every 6 weeks, farrier is happy with his feet, hes got good strong feet which the farrier said was his blessing
* On a thick shavings bed
* Has cinnamon powder twice a day
* Never turned out on frosty grass
* Dont overrug him but he is fully clipped and needs to stay fairly warm or he gets stiff
Does this sound okay?
In summer would you still have the turnout? He is in a starvation paddock
