Sorry if this has been posted a dozen times :
I have a 3 yr 14.3 hh cob, she had her feet trimmed 2 weeks ago and although she was chubby the farrier said she was okay for the time of year.
Checked her tonight and although shes looking sound etc and even trotted off when i went to ctach her, i fellt her crest and it felt hard, her feet feel a bit warm too. I am going away on wednesday till friday and have a friend looking in on her for me, but i don't want to leave her till my mind is at ease.
I have left a message with my farrier to have a look at her tomorrow to be on the safe side and there is a very baldy bare spot by the gate that i could always section off and feed hay for a few days but it would only be a few days as the field is rented and land owner wants horses off for hay - they where due to move tomorrow back home but my grass is lush as hell with no baldy bits :( how good would a grazing muzzle be a this stage if its not lami yet - just a warning sign??
I have sectioned off my field ready for them but grass is vey thick and lush.
This is the first time i have had a lami scare with her and am worried

ETA am even considering *borrowing* some sheep from the farmer to graze it down before they come back!!

Get a muzzle on and restricted grazing - no grazing even better - straight away.
Soak her hay and keep an eye on her, prevention is better than cure :)
My p/l girl is lami prone and just been diagnosed with Cushings even though she is managed as a strict lami pony all the time. She is currently out for half an hour - an hour MAX in a tiny individual paddock with a muzzle on....call us paranoid!! ;)

Yes, getting one tomorrow morning, will section of the bald bits too. Hopefully i have caught early, just waiting for farrier to get in touch!

Just spoken to land owner and they have kindly agreed to me having the bald bit by the gate for as long as its needed :)

As for my field........would you put sheep on it to graze it down before cobs go back on it?? i need ideas!
How many sheep would it take to graze a 3 acre field for max 2 weeks to make it lami-pony-proof ? :D

Good, good. Not sure re the sheep, but good idea to get it grazed down and get rid of some of it before they go back out onto it!
As for me, it would be grass muzzles all the way too!

Also have a yearling - welsh d, but hes not atall fat, soft crest, cool feet, but he's number 1 companion for the cob so looks like he will be restricted also!
