My horse had lami last year and has just had pulses come up this year. :-( now o have had a week of day out day in cause pulses r back and we r both fed up! He is now over excitable and naughty cause he needs to be out daily poor boy. My problem is he can his Greenland off using nothing but the floor! And I'm at my wits end. Today I have tried him in small pen with out muzzle as it is dangerous when he gets it off scared he is gonna hurt himself. I will see if he has pulses after work. He will have had 8 hours out so fingers crossed. How do u manage your lami ponies? Any and all advice please I am so upset I just don't know what to do with him. :-(

to try to keep the lami at bay make sure they get work. Even the little ponies at our stables got worked everyday. If they were not ridden they were lunged. Remember also if you have natives let them live as natives not pushing a load of hard food at them when they arent getting worked.

Edited to say I am sure you are doing this already and good luck x

God, I am surprised you have enough grass at the moment for lami to be rearing it's ugly head! I do not have a laminitic pony but i do have a 14.2hh welsh x who is prone to getting rather overweight and, now aged 24 I am cautious with what he has to graze on just in case. When I did have a laminitic pony (welsh again!) many moons ago we put him in 'slimmers paddock' during the day and then he was out with the others at night and did ok. He was quite happy in his paddock and I think it does help their sanity to be able to wander about.

Therefore if it was me I would opt for that - we had a purpose post and rail fenced paddock for him but nowadays I would just get some electric fencing an section off an area and move it if needs be then.

I assume he is having no additional feed and is getting exercise? I think exercise is certainly important to keep the blood flowing and to burn off some of those calories being consumed!

He is on blue chip lami cause he is only 3 and I feel needs extra as he is still growing. He isn't ridden .yet because he hasn't been backed yet. He is not even a little overweight either. Poor little boy

Hope this works for him. I'm so lucky I have a very large yard which I extended when I moved here so pony lives in there most of the time (with two mates) but has access to a small paddock later in the year and for a time and in winter. I have all my horses yarded atm and on soaked hay, one is dieting and another one had hooves that went very flat with grass so I decided to bring them all in 24/7 for safety and keep them as a herd.

I wouldn't be able to manage my pony without my grass free yard unless I shut her in the barn which I don't think is fair on her for such long periods.
