hi, after assummed laminitis - how long to box rest after no pain relief/ pulse, how long to start walking out and how long before travel - journeys up to hour ( other ponies travel companion) dont want to compromise return to health of pony with problem

I would definitely get a vet to examine and probably x-ray the pony to make sure there is no rotation etc and seek their advice upon rest period and return to work. IMHO it's too much of a risk to guess with laminitis. My mare had fat laminitis in May '08 with slight rotation (in her rubbish flat feet). I followed the vet's advice, had her x-rayed and was over cautious about box rest and returning to work. Thankfully, she returned to normal work so it was worth the work/expense. Good luck.

Laminitis Clinic is really good source of information for stuff like this. They quoted me 30 days box rest on a deep litter (18 inches) bed after the pain has subsided. Not sure about travel, but I'd give them a ring. They have a helpline on www.laminitisclinic.org

This won't answer your question, but I've just read Jaime Jackson's book 'Founder' and Pete Ramey's 'Making natural hoof care work for you' and they were fascinating. Totally the opposite of traditional treatment!
