Hi. Horse seemed sore on Wednesday. Farrier came to test today. All 4 feet tender but no signs of paedal (sp?) bone damage or bruising but slightly concerned about becoming laminitic (who isnt worried with this weather=grass).

So, recommended a "Laminitic Flush" which I shall order after weight taping him tomorrow.

Any thoughts?

Any other advice gratefully received as I am worried sick, probably needlessly but I know: no treats, less grass and more exercise.

Help!

Thanks x

I've never heard of it either.

But if you are concerned your horse is coming down with laminitis then you need to summon your vet.

its a detox for sugar from an equine nutritionalist

no signs of lami yet but im in panic mode so prevention better than cure

noone inc farrier who i trust nor yard mates have suggested the vet

testers were done purely as so much lami around, everything negative bar slight tenderness which i saw on wednesday when riding

so....so far no-one has tried the "flush"

thanku tho x

Never heard of it. Would like to know what is in it.
There is not one magic cure for acute or sub clinical laminitis.
It needs to be a systematic, multiple approach to improve whole health, diet and hoof.
This Laminitic Flush may be a great tool - but it must only be part of a bigger approach.
Laminitis rarely comes suddenly via one problem. It's normally 'the straw that broke the camel's back' type of situation where the horse's system and hoof gets pushed over the edge.

Ps not meaning to sound preachy or patronizing - I am struggling to post on this stupid phone.
I am ranting on marketing of magic supplements - not ranting at OP :)

Pedal bone rotation is not a symptom of laminitis, its the result of a breakdown in the laminae, ie laminitis.

There is no magic cure, its diet and exercise and trimming that prevents it, and as seasons change, growing seasons change, your management must be flexible to account for the changes and constantly adjusted to ward off this disease.

This is new to me too. Even if it is efficacious you will still need the usual treatment plan as follow on imo ie. Well soaked, rinsed hay, appropriate hoof support and trim etc.

The best way to moonitor the liklehood of laminitis is to check your horses digital pulse at least once a day. An increase in the amplitude of the pulse can indicate the onset of laminitis.
Although Laminitis can be triggered by a number of different things it is important to excercise your horse each day and keep it's weight down.
Take a look at the Laminitis clinic web site for more information.

Thank you

I try to exercise my horse every day however (see desperately seeking sharer post) I have a chronic illness that makes this hard and I have just lost my sharer. First time I have been without a sharer for over 3 years. I am meeting a potential tomorrow so lets keep everything crossed (those bits that dont hurt)

Enjoy the sunshine.
