laminitics-epsm, restricting early am grazing?

I am curious to see whether anyone is restricting early morning grazing due to the heavy frosts and bright sunny days we are having. I am a bit concerned that my EPSM horse will have a reaction so I am giving haylage hoping eh will eat this instead(which seems to be working)
If you are restricting grazing, how long for? Or am I doing this all wrong?

Yes my boy who had a severe attack of lami 2006 is furiously patroling his "prison" paddock as i type! He has PLENTY of haylege but wants to play with his mates. He wont go back out on the full field until the frosts finish as my vet warned me that he was far more likely to have a frosted grass lami than from rich spring grass
 
Yes, absolutely, am not turning my welshie out until frost is gone, 11am today. I think feeding the haylage in the hope he will eat that instead is a bit dodgy TBH.
 
massive issue with other horses and nuisance owners involved. He is not laminitic, he has epsm so not quite as catastrophic as lami. Would it be better to leave him in yard then till later on in day?
 
You have to weigh up the pros of avoiding the sugars in the grass with the cons of him having less turn out. EPSM horses being what they are I'd try one idea and see how he responds. My boy is better off out on the grass than in for longer so that is what i have to do. Yours may be more susceptable to the grass but you won't know till you try.

Mine, had lami twice, is out at night, haynets on gate, and comes in all day from first light, especially if frosty and goes out again at dusk. So far so good. he is on very little grass.
 
mine are out, but on virtually bare ground, so forced to choose hay. we are about to move to a lusher field, but I may leave lami-shet in the mud patch, til the frosts are cleared.

Squip-we have an enclosed yard so I can still leave him in the yard but he can move round quite a bit. He is reacting to the grasses I think because he was being a complete dickhead this morning -lol! Spooking all over the place even at his rug!!!
