Laminitics out there! Are you out at night?

My cob is out at night, stabled during the day. Its forecast frosty tonight and he is out. I will get him in at 6am, before the sun rises and reaches the grass.What are your thoughts on this arrangement. I thought he would be ok as the sun is not on the grass when he is eating it.
 
My horse is also a laminitic and she is out tonight and all day tomorrow. The paddock she is in has hardley any grass.
 
Depends on the horse really...how suseptable to it etc. If in doubt get them in..that is what I think. But to be honest I think any time off the grass in a stable is better than nothing. I laways get my boy in for the night all year in order to keep his weight and diet in check and he only had a twinge this year for the first time ever.
 
My girl has a grass-free paddock. It's not big enough for her to be out 24/7 but she goes out during the day, with plenty of haynets to keep her occupied.

She got lami last winter when living out full time so I don't think winter's a lot safer than summer really!
 
mine is usually out 12 hours a day, in at night and muzzled in spring/summer

currently on box rest (for different problem) so for once I am not worrying about the lammi!

To be honest, I brought my pony for my daughter nearly 3 years ago and I was told she was laminitic. Since I've had her she hasn't had it.

You know your horse better than anyone.

With the correct diet and exercise you may be able to reduce the laminitice or get rid off it all together.
 
My lami manages all winter out, even the frosty grass doesn't seem to effect her which is lucky I guess. Summer is another matter mind you, she still lives out but with a combination of grazing muzzle and electric fencing. TBH unless they are particularly prone, from a general health point of view they're probably best off out as much as possible.
 
I agree with Nudibranch. I have two Laminitics, both are out 24/7 only come in if weather gets very bad. Also with a combination of muzzles and electric fencing. They are currently on ( with another pony) 2 acres of quite brown grass which is about6 inches long. I never get them in when its frosty, and neither has had an attack for nearly four years.
Each horse/pony is different tho.
Warm wet weather is my worst nightmare, from end March to end October they are on about half an acre.
