Hi everyone :)

I have a 25yo Clydie QH cross gelding who is extremely fat and I'm always paranoid about laminitis.

I will take photos tomorrow of his feet and a side shot of his highness' belly :D.

He is currently in a big paddock with mainly long brown grass (summer here).

His feed is:
500gm Prydes 150 Balancer
150gm Prydes Polished
1/2-1 handful (dry) beet pulp
2tsp turmeric
2tsp MgO
a ice cream container of oaten chaff.

Could anyone give me a laminitis for dummies list of things i need to watch for?

Get him tested for cushings and equine metabolic syndrome because of his age he could have one of them if not both, they can both trigger laminitis and if not treated the horse is much more prone to getting laminitis, I have no idea what some of that feed is as you are not from the UK but if you are worried about his weight does he really need hard feed? If not I would cut it out or just give him a small token feed to put the supplements in.

The best thing you can do for your horse is to get some weight off....
I wouldn't be feeding him anything other than perhaps the balancer.
This site is an excellent resource and will tell you everything you need to know

His feed is literally just chaff and supplements - sorry forgot that you guys don't have Prydes in the UK! Polished is a coat and hoof supplement, has Biotin in it which helps with hoof strength ect. I have cut out his beet in the last few days as he is now being used as a lawn mower in the backs of other peoples paddocks before they mow it down as we graze on the XC course and have a ODE coming up.

Well this is not what he needs to lose weight. Put him in a bare paddock and feed him a controlled quantity of hay if he's really obese, there's no other way.

I really would prefer to have him in my normal paddock, but the lady who manages the grazing has decided that it needs to be shut off for winter now and has told me to put him where he is. Doesnt help that she believes that because eyes 25 it won't matter how much grass he has. I said something about keeping him off it and she's like 'oh well remember that he's old!'.
