After such wet conditions followed by really mild sunny weather, my grass has gone mad and is not only suddenly growing but is coming through a bright lush green. (literally in the space of 3 days!)
My little pony came in a bit footy today, which has caught me out rather (crap mum). Thought it worth mentioning as people should be on their guard - looks like a bad Spring for Laminitis!!!
 
We were talking about exactly the same thing up our yard this morning! Definitly gonna have to be on a serious look out in all horses this year!
 
My ponio has been on lami alert for a good month already...have noticed the poo's are getting alot greener though in the last few days...
 
The grass is coming through but worse still we had a heavy frost in the night and that combined with new growth is deadley for lami's. Its unfortunate but when you have a lami prone horse you begin to think that no time of the year is safe. Hence leaving my lass in till later in the day when the frost has thawed. Better safe than sorry, the forcast is frost and snow (winter is back!) for the weekend and early next week in my part of the world.

We are strip grazing already to get them used to it, keep on top of the growth, and hopefully keep the dreaded L at bay.

Have to say the orange one who is usually the potential victim, is starting this year trimmer than I've ever seen her!

Yep I'm on lami alert too. My mare has definitely shown to be on and off slightly pulsey this week - no footiness though (she's barefoot). I am preparing to muzzle her next week for the couple of days when I have no choice but to turn her out for a full day (or leave her in).

Plus just so others don't get caught out - she isn't your typical lami pony - she's a 16hh TBxWB mare who is fit and not fat, but she still suffers, although luckily now she is barefoot, I can catch the slightest changes really quickly, so she doesn't actually get to the proper laminitic stage.
 
It's Milly, who is my 30 year old. I am completely to blame, but caught slightly off guard this year. She didn't have a sign of it last year despite us having masses of grass. But think this year will be really bad for the grass.
She has no pulse and is quite cheerful, walking out happily etc.
Sienna is the one who is most unamused as she's nominated companion for Milly who is pretty much stabled till we can fence off a starvation paddock.
She was absolutely seething this morning at being in with Milly whilst everyone else is out.
To make matters worse we have one and a half bales of our fantastic haylage left which we're keeping for the animals which actually do some work. Sienna and Milly have just been bought some bales of hay, which they are disgusted with - especiually since it's soaked!
