Hi, my mare was diagnosed with laminitis today, so will be changing bed tomorrow, i have bought aubiouse, does anybody use this for their laminitics or would woodchip be better? vet said both ideal but wondered other peoples experiences??? Thanks.

I used aquamax/liverpool woodpellets type bedding, once watered it becomes like sawdust (although not dusty) and packs up very nicely into the hoof for support.

I have used Aubiose in the past, but think wood pellet bedding might be better for laminitics, good luck with your horse, lammi is horrid, but with proper care etc its not the end :)

I changed to woodypet and then wood pellets. Both have to be watered and very supportive. I took shoes off to support the sole further and booted with pads (laminitis trust do frog supports too).

Have used all of them - they all have their pros and cons.

But, if you put a thick layer of straw over the bed, it really does encourage them to lay down.

yes its so hard, so do you think woodchip and aubiouse are as good with the cushioning aspect?

Personally, I prefer shavings, just because I think they are a little bit softer, however, in the past the vet has said that it is getting it to a good depth and right up to the door that is more important than whether you use shavings or aubiouse?. In fact, the vet did suggest that ideally put sand underneath the bedding - but not quite sure how that works! Currently, I have my horse in the school as it is primarily sand, and I understand that gives good support.

However, I genuinely think that as long as it is deep enough and goes right up to the door, that any of those options will be fine.
