Hey all,

My names Steph, I work for an equine diagnostics and reasearch company called Peagsus (www.pegasusdiagnostics.com). We specialise in Cushing's and laminitis.
We have recently launched a new product called LaminTec 5-HT. It's designed to help maintain a healthy circulation and therefore reduce the risk of laminitis due to hormone imbalance caused by Cushing's, high carbohydrate contents in grass (spring/autumn) etc.
I'm interested in hearing peoples thoughts on current laminitis related products that are on the market and also your experiences with Cushing's/laminitis.

I haven't experienced cushing's but have a pony that is prone to lami.
I manage it by keeping things simple. Limited grass, high fibre diet of Happy Hoof and soaked hay all year round.
No lotions or potions, sugar or carbs and I keep him slightly underweight for the norm ie I can see rather than just feel his ribs.
 
i have a lami pony and manage him the same as MrMeldrew. Hes more prone to lami when the weather is very cold so it seems to be a circulation thing as well as sugar related. I m going to try stable chaps on him this year to see if keeping his legs warmer might help. Currently giving him Founderguard which seems to have a positive effect. He is a 14 year old New Forest pony.
 
I have 2 lami-prone ponies, one of which has just recently (within the last month) been diagnosed with cushings. He has been on Pergolide for the past 3 weeks-ish now. Am noticing him perk up a bit and he spooked and cantered off up the field the other day (quite abnormal for him), however he is still very lame on hard ground which Im still hoping will improve on this pergolide...

I bought back my old pony club pony last xmas 12.2hh, he is 18yo , the previous owner had him on pergolide but my vet said to take him off this jan 2009 as he didnt seem to be cushinoid , however this summer he had a couple of bouts of lami and then has got very hairy quickly and has really deteriorated in the last month or 2 , vet has said he really does seem to have cushings now , and he is back on pergolide.

But he is not happy and has no life , he hates to be stabled , so is just in a small bare grass paddock , but it seems that the lami is not really connected to grass intake for him, he has been having lami episodes when he has been off the grass .

Thinking to try founder guard for him , and as you mention circulation products that may help .
As the ground gets frosty he is not very keen to move around at all , due to feet / circulation / generally depression ???

his feet have been quite bad and despite vet and farrier he is always seeming to be down on his heels / soles .

Not sure what to do with him, have discussed with vet possibe sand / rubber chip paddock maybe for the winter hard ground as other option would be stabled 24/7 when it ground is too hard for him . Also discussed this may be his last few months with us , as he has had a pretty poor summer and few months and doesnt seem to be improving .

So would love to take part in any of your research maybe if it would be of help to you or my pony or other sufferers.

I have a 15 yr old pony with Cushings but, so far, no laminitis and we keep him out as much as possible otherwise he gets very stiff and lame (he has other issues and has also been de-nerved so some serious management required). He is on pergolide at present and is doing well.

Also had 18 year old pony put down earlier this year as kept getting laminitis, due to Cushings and did not respond to treatment.
