If anyones been following my posts re my mare she has been doing well with no pulse even though she's got rotated and sunk pedal bone. However i've just been up to check her and she's got a pulse again, i wouldn't say bounding but it's strong. She's up and moving around but i don't think she's as bright.

I've given her a extra bute (two instead of one) DO I PANIC!!!! xxxx

Only different thing i've done is rather than her have a small haynet in the afternoon she's had a scoop of happy hoof instead. Only because my friends doing her in the afternoon and she's waiting to have spinal surgery and can't lift wet haynets.

I havn't called vet as i can't see they'll do anything tonight, will see how she is tomorrow am xxxx

hum i cant see that making diffrence.. but it could.. as it does have more miniral content than wet hay...

No i think its sensible not to call vet.. A digital pulse is no the end of the world.. has she exhibited any other signs.. heat in the feet? sweating?

Buteing her was sensible as this will reduce swelling and should easy the pulse slightly atleast..

Well if it was me posting a question on a forum and wondering whether to panic...my guts would tell me to at least call and ask for a vets advice just in case. It does not hurt and they may just say wait until the morning, but at least you will have asked the question and eased your mind a bit. I am a firm believer in if in doubt...ask. Especially with Laminitis issues...better be safe and all that. Hope she is feeling better in the morning though.

My friends horse had laminitis last year, he was fed on happy hoof, she was advised by her vet to only feed hi fi lite, her horse couldnt take the happy hoof, maybe yours is the same.

same as above, my mare is very lammy prone and happy hoof actually kicks off her raised pulses, do a search on it, you'll find a few with lammy's saying the same thing, happy hoof is starting to be known to not be as suitable for lammy's as it's marketed, my vet put it down to how much is actually in it and like above suggested hifi lite only instead, which she's been great on, she can also have the badmington lite chaff too which is along same lines as the hifi lite (trying to get hifi lite round here is like finding gold dust!)

hope she's ok, can understand your thoughts, I have them all the time with mine, constant alert system is turned on, just as well we love them isn't it

Yeh sorry. Maybe I was just being paranoid since this happened to my mare after she got better, the next day she had a digital pulse and heat again but was still bright. We didn't call the vet because we considered nothing they could do. Two days later the pedal bone had sunk and one of the hooves had cracked open, so in hindsight I'd have called the vet even for peace of mind.

Hello A&A - I hope you dont mind me PM'ing you.

I have been reading your posts about your laminitic pony - I really hope she's a little better today.

I thought i would drop you a line as I too have a severely lamantic 11 Sec A pony with Equine Metabolic Disorder and have been dealing with lami for quite a few years now

.

She too had a rotated sunken pedel bone 18 months ago, but all is well now due to a fab farrier. Has your farrier looked at your pony's x-rays?

I do find when my little one has got lami I dont change anything whatsoever in her feed/daily routine. This can cause more upset and her lami can become worse.

She is out all day and in on the evening on extremely restricted grazing (i only move her fence back approx 10 inches per day and not the whole length of fence!) that's how severe she is. I also soak her hay for up to 24/48 hours and never give her dry hay - far too rich for her.

Feed-wise - she is on Hi Fi Lite, Happy Hoof and her vitamins - she does really well on this - I also restrict her carrots/apples as too sugary.

With regard to bute, this can be really hard on the stomach so i always give my little one Danilon - apparently it has a sweeter taste and not so harse on her tummy.

Again, I hope you dont mind me PM'ing you - but I really do know 1st hand what its like being on the lami learning curve - you never relax and its a constant nightmare.

Hope the above helps a little and if you need to chat about anything to do with lami - just let me know. I am no expert by any stretch of the mind, but hands on experience doesn't half help LOL.

Speak soon. Hugs to your pony and hang in there - it will take a long long time for her to 'get there' but I am sure she will.
