Just wondering if anyone else hearing about quite a few laminitis cases now with the warm wet conditions that we're having plus much needed rain again making the grass flush? We had one at the yard but that was due to underlying Cushings but beyond that I've heard of 3 horses of friends in the last few weeks. I'm assuming the usual short stressed grass, although nothing really to look at in the fields, once it's had a bit of rain and sun again producing lots of sugar/fructans. Just wondered if the same across the country at the moment.

I know where your coming from M , I am going to have to be very careful with the shettie he has cushings. Although he has only had 1 very mild case of lami, and I have been very careful since his diagnosis he has not had it again. His tiny paddock is yellow at the moment and has even been having a tiny amount of hay everyday, but we have had some rain recently and it will not be long before it flushes up.
Its been very quiet this summer around me not heard of one case of lami, but with a good flush of grass now we have had some rain will keep everyone on their toes. I have a feeling it will catch a few of the (it wont happen to me brigade) out :(

Yep my 8yo Haflinger has just gone down with acute lami despite being on the same very bare field for months and not having hard feed :-(((( Our grass is green as green can be all summer :-(((

She was overweight and we were trying to diet her...but the lami struck before we could get enough of the weight off.

The only good news is that she has never had any problems before, and there is no hoof problems other than bruising/lameness, and X rays show no changes to the pedal bone etc and sole remains over thickness guidelines.

She's never been shod, thank God, so we picked up straight away on the lami as she went lame while we were out on a ride.

So she is on box rest on thick shavings bed with 1 bute morning and evening (hoping to reduce to one a day asap as I know bute doesnt help laminae recovery) and being fed only hifii lite and 12-24 hour soaked hay and lami safe haylage (also soaked same period).

I do think there are a lot of cases around this year. I feel terrible that this has happened to her on my watch and am just hoping and praying that she can come back from it. One advantage is that they live at home so I can build her a small turnout pen etc and surface it with pea gravel or bark when she's well enough to be turned out.

Just found out a horse I found lame at the yard I'm on today is another horse with lami - please be wary everyone, with the rain and sunshine the autumn flush is there and lethal.
