There has been losts of useful information here about lami, about the cause & effects, but I really need to know about recovery long term. My boy has had several minor episodes & one major, he has rotation in both front feet one more severe than the other. How do I help him repair and strengthen his laminae ? can the rotation be reversed by good foot management? Apart from regulating his diet; he definitely has problems with sugars ( he's not overweight), he's on soaked haylage, a little hi-fi lite with Baileys lo-cal & laminator. He will be x-rayed again in a couple of months ( when I've paid the vet for the current bills!) & I will ask for a blood test too for metabolic problems.
All input gratefully received.

Yes they can recover and come back to full work if you get the foot care and diet right, I have a pony with some rotation on all 4 feet he has them trimmed every 4 weeks to keep on top of the growth, he has very good hard feet that grow very fast so this both helps and can hinder as they can grow a bit too long even with a 4 weekly trim.
Diet is important, mine has soaked hay, Fast Fibre and a handful of chop with his supplements.
My pony is now sound, in work and should be out competing this summer in SJ/ODEs but it has taken a long time, one vet said to pts the rotation was not that bad but he said the prognosis was poor for returning to full soundness. My farrier fortunately disagreed and has supported me through the abscess that lasted 4 months and started it and the laminitas that then developed.
Good luck with yours and be patient it can take a long while to fully recover and at times I was not sure I was doing the correct thing for my pony but he is a fighter and still young enough to have a future.

Im not sure about rotations ect but my mare had acute laminitis last June and I honestly thought she wasn't going to make it she was so bad, the only lasting problem she's had is where she had to have a few weeks box rest and not much to eat and she wasnt overweight in the first place she lost some fat around the joint in her stifle and the joint slipped for a while but after 6 months or so of exercise and oil for the joint she's back to her normal self :)
