Anyone know of mild laminitis being caused by Liverpool cream treatment for sarcoids? In a horse that's already had mild laminitis not long ago. My vet says no, not possible but I am not sure...

I can't imagine how Liverpool Cream could possibly cause laminitis. As far as I know it doesn't get into the bloodstream, just works on the local area. My horse had treatment with it earlier in the year and was fine, he wasn't even sore on it.

I would say that if your horse had already had lami then you might need to think about a management change for him. I really can't see how LC could cause it, possibly unless he ate it in which case he'd be poisoned!

It can cause Lameness sure enough (depending on where it is used on the body) but I am not sure how it would cause laminitis. Are you sure you mean lami? Or lameness?

He's lame too but not connected to either the lami or the sarcoids. No he had the Liverpool cream applied 5 times, quite a bit of swelling this time. Started showing signs of lami on second treatment, day 3, which got worse after 4th treatment which was day 8 and is now bright and alert as usual with no signs of heat or footiness.

My friends horse had a reaction to it. Not lami but he got lumps all over his body when he was treated with it. It lasted for about 2 weeks. Having seen him suffer with it i wouldn't rule he lami out as a side effect as it obviously caused stress to my friends horse.

Thanks, I looked on the Liverpool sight and it said it can cause horses to be off colour. He is already being managed for lami and was fine before and now after the creams have been applied. It may have just been total coincidence. He is going to get tested for EMS anyway as already going into the vets for a lameness work up. This horse has seen more vets than I have had hot dinners this year!
