I am trying to find information on what happens to the structure of the hoof when a horse or pony has laminitis. Can anyone provide any website or info?
Laminitis trust are good. Off the top of my head I know soles drop, pedal bone rotates and laminae separate from hoof wall. You also get flare/thickening of hoof wall at the front and fast heel growth (or is it toe - can't remember?!).
It depends entirely on how bad the laminitis is!
My pony has had it twice, both font feet and only mild, just the laminae inflamed. The hoof does grow quicker. More severe cases causes the pedal bone to rotate.
Laminitis trust are good; but it costs a fortune to phone them.
Just google laminitis and you can read till the cows come home!!
