Laminitis

I know this is a simple question but I think its important, I have just seen another post about laminitis and it started me off worrying. Please could someone give me signs of what to look for, I remember we did a breif session on it at pony club a few years back where we all had to draw pictures of the laminitis position, but I can't even remember what thats like anymore :-s.

Hi, the obvious signs of laminitis are increased digital pulse and heat in feet, plus looking a bit footsore when moving. Often the horse will be seen to shift its weight and move from one foot to the other. The typical laminitic stance can also be seen too which is where the horse looks as though it is leaning backwards and trying to take the weight off the sore front feet. Laminitis can affect any foot, front or back and mild cases can have really no symptoms at all unless you are very adept at seeing perhaps minimal lameness. Its a really good idea to know what is "normal" in your horses feet as some have warmer feet than others. If you suspect your horse/pony has laminitis, even mildly initially you should call your vet and move the horse into a stable with a deep bed to make them more comfortable.
