Laminitis

contact the laminitis trust they will tell you what to feed and amounts etc, you need a deep bed, really deep

So sorry to hear your pony is suffering from laminitis, it can be very hard obviously for the horse but also the owner. Your vet should be able to give you all the advice you need as each case is an individual one and may need slightly different care, but just in case I hope the info below is of some help.

Management is key! As others have said a deep bed is extremely important, it must cover the entire stable (no point leaving a nice swept area by the door) and it needs to be something that supports the foot so shavings or similar (straw doesn't pack into the foot in the right way).

Pain relief - bute is most often used but some individuals respond better to finadyne, or even a combination of both. I'm not necessarily advising that the horse should be totally pain free and cantering around its box but no animal should be left in pain.

Vasodilators - these drugs influence the blood flow to the extremities of the body and they can help some individuals.

Srtict box rest - this is probably the single most important thing and most owners try to 'be nice' to their horses and take them out for a short period whilst they muck out or similar. This can be the worst thing to do.

Feeding - laminitics must not be starved even if they are obese. A well thought out diet plan based primarily on hay should be implemented and I am a big believer in feed balancers (either D&H Ultimate balancer, or a laminitic-targeted one).

Good luck and I hope she makes a quick recovery!

Thanks everyone for the advise shettie is a lot brighter today she has been on bute for 4 days and is a lot more comfy.
Ive got her in a deep bed of shavings, double netted haynet (much to her disgust) and happy hoof with lamineze & bute, her feet have cooled down and the only thing thats getting exercised is her vocal cords! the donkey came in to keep her company last night & I sneaked him out this morning while OH mucked her out.
The vet says they have had many lami cases in the last 2 weeks the ground is warming up and although the grass looks short its still enough to cause lami.
Not sure how long she will have to stay on box rest for but ive got a weeks bute then he said give 1/2 bute & an aspirin in the evening.
