Anyone got a pony or horse with it yet? Think the pony i look after may have it very slighltly, he had it last year, ive kept him in today and farrier is coming tomorrow to do his feet so will ask his opinion as his feet are very long, he's lame on nearside foreleg and is standing with his back legs under him but not leaning back.... any ideas??

Sounds like it could well be a touch of laminitis. better to be on the safe side, keep him in, on a good shavings bed if possible. Re the near fore, laminitis can give rise to secondary infection within the damaged laminae, your farrier should be able to check for this when he comes. Has your pony got much crest? Strong digital pulse? Softness in the area just above his hoof at the front?

Any suspicion he has it dont hesitate, get the vet, mine not got it yet, he is in during the day and out at night now, once there is enough grass its the muzzle on! Taking no chances.

well, farrier has been, in his opinion it isnt laminitus- phew!
however he is lame on near side fore leg still and quite stiff. we trotted up before and sfter shoeing and it made no difference and the farrier used pincher things but no response, there is no swelling or heat. he appears to be standing better today... farrier has recommended taking him for walks in hand as he's retired and keep him out of deep mud and see how he goes... fingers crossed... im hoping he had just pulled a muscle coming in from the field, the mud is just so deep - half way up his cannons, but once actaully in the field not too bad...

I agree, please get the vet. My farrier told me my slightly lame horse definately did not have laminitis. No heat or raised digital pulse. Not sensitive to toe testers. Turns out she has foundered 15mm
