The dreaded laminitis!! My mare was diagnosed with cushings last year, only very mildly, but she was prescribed 1mg Prascend daily and I was advised by vet and farrier that this would keep laminitis at bay. She was lame for a total of 4 months, was very ill but eventually pulled through and at the end of August we gradually started letting her graze for 10 minutes with a muzzle and extended the time with the exercise. We avoided the frosty grass over the past couple of weeks, but low and behold, she is showing signs of it again. Would anybody suggest that I let her graze through the winter limited and with a muzzle, seems so unfair to me, but I can't bear to see her ill again, this will be about the fourth time in five years! 18 months ago she nearly died due to a strangulating lypoma!! Help!!

Think this would get more views in NL or Vet section?

Agree to speak with your vet. Your mare sounds very sensitive; I would not risk grass with such a horse; grass free turn out with soaked hay is the way to go imo.

Yes I will do, thanks. I was under the impression that the dosage would be dropped in the winter and as I say, she has it very mildly.

this is the worse time of yr for cushings ponys, the meds normally have to go up, poss down in summer.. my boy started on one prascend hes now on 2... might be worth testing acth levels again.... :)
