Hi had my black horse shod yesterday with pads on the front the farrier hot shod him with lots of smoke horse has thin soles and now sore. Did ask him not to put too much heat on as horse obviously felt it. Horse now very sore and on Bute.
My question to you good people is what is the advice re hot shoeing lamanitics? I feel my horse has been caused pain and I am not happy.

I have no experience of it but I have an aversion to doing too much 'stuff' to inflamed and painful hooves myself. x I assume this isn't during an acute episode?

I've not personally seen a horse have problems due to the heat when hot shod. I have however seen lots of horses with nail bind or nail prick. I would want the farrier to come back and take the shoes off incase it's the nails at fault.

You are quite right to not be happy though. A horse should never walk away from a trim or from being shod, less sound than they were before.
