Just back from Vets (travelled her knee deep in shavings with frogs supported) and the results are good - x-rays show two matching front feet with no rotation of the pedal bone. So farrier out this afternoon to fit heartbars.
Feel so relieved its unbelievable and if it was any later in the day would crack open a bottle!!
Thanks for all your advice and support - I know we still have a long way to go but at least I feel like we will get there!

Great news. What a relief

Brilliant news! Take your time with the recovery and you will be fine. My lad has been allowed out onto some strip grazed grass for the last week or so following the all clear from the vets. He had slight rotation in one front and has had many weeks on box rest, lost a tonne of weight too. You will get there just listen to your horse, dont rush things and follow vets advise...good luck.

Well Moo is now the proud wearer of shiney new heartbar shoes and looking very pleased with herself that she has had lots of fuss today!

She is on bute now for a few days and in for 2 weeks until the Vet comes back out to see her - will then have an idea of how much longer she will need to be kept in.

Was very good - didnt crack open a bottle at lunch time even though tempted but I did crack open a box of biscuits to share with the farrier and his apprentices as they had a few to do here in the rain today!!!

Will trundle off to find a bottle now though!!

Great news - its the rotation in the larger horse that is most problematic because of their overall size.

You have winter ahead of you which is great because it makes the diet job that bit easier. Mine has lost tones of weight as well and sometimes I break my heart but then when she canters across the field as she did today I think to myself "thank God she's still alive!"

Ask the vet for an optimum weight for her and keep a weight tape handy for regular use. Mine creep up on their weight and its much harder to get off once the condition score is too high.

Congrats.
