A move is on the cards later this year. We are considering Lanarkshire, possibly south. Are there any towns that are particularly nice? We don’t need to commute for work, but want to be handy for supermarkets etc.

Hmmmm not my favourite bit of Scotland but I’d live in Strathaven (Stravin). Honestly you ll have to drive around and get the feel of the area, a lot of it was industrial at one time with some fascinating social history. Chateauherault ( not spelled at all right) is lovely, I’ve shopped in Hamilton, ridden in Cumbernauld and had customers in East Kilbride.. I ll ask my OH for recommendations. Good thing is you re really close to Glasgow which I love and miss.

On the plus side you'll get a lot of property for your money in that area.

I much prefer the Borders scenery though Biggar is a lovely wee town with lots of independent shops on the High Street and a good community feel (and geographically very close to the Borders and has a Borders feel to it with a common riding etc)

Bigger would be a good shout for horses, so would round about Hamilton/strathaven. I live near Lanark and I’m pretty central for most things going on round about. Lesmahagow/coalburn and surrounding small villages are also horsey but more remote but with good links to M74.

I wouldn’t per se live in Hamilton but the areas heading out from there to strathavan and towards the A71 are fairly quiet and horsey.

Plenty of yard in SL that’s for sure from DIY all the way to full with great facilities 👌🏻
