Can anyone recommend an insurance company that does'nt cost an arm and a leg for a Landrover? I've done a few "comparison" quotes today and they vary so much but still seem really expensive. Are there any specialist companies for 4x4's ? Any help appreciated.

I'm with the NFU for my Landrover - very reasonable in my opinion and really helpful. Don't know if there are any specialist companies though.

Good luck with the insurance search :)

ok - so I'm the wrong side of 40 and limit my Discovery mileage to 5000 a year (it is only really used as a tow-car so that is plenty) and it is old, so 3rd party fire & theft only, but my insurance is with Swinton and is £135 a year!!!!!!! (for the 3.9L V8 petrol version). Used one of the comparison sites a couple of years back and was just stunned as I had been paying £400 a year.

We use Frizzel - although I'll look at NFU for next year!

Like Stroppymare we are older and the Landi has limited mileage because it is mainly the tow car but we pay about £250 pa.

Things like additional fitted security (especially on the older models) can make a difference. As does where you park it at night. You can also opt for no contents cover - which given that we have a very old defender 110 where you can open the rear sliding windows from outside is probably sensible. But don't skimp on immobilsers etc - they are often stolen!

Mine is insured with Sheila's wheels. I think mine was about £500 last year with 3 years no claims, I thought this quite reasonable since it is my only car and is used for everything!
