Unaffiliated, but course used to be BE. Has anyone seen the course this year or competed in 06? Wondered what the Intro course is like & if anyone has any pics. Otherwise think we'll make the trip to walk the doggies around the course.....

I have ridden around the Intro course. It is quite straight forward but your horse does need to be fit. It is all on big hills and the last fence is a killer if you aren't fit enough.

There is nothing trappy.

If I remember rightly the starting fences are all on a very slight downhill slope, all very straight forward inviting fences. From fence four it all starts to go down in to the valley but the fences are still very kind. Your just go through a small river and then up a steep hill to a in and out fence. You then have quite a long gallop across to the woods. There is a bank in to the woods and within the woods is a nice coffin, a small drop down a steep bank and then then a pheasant feeder and the Woof fence which brings you back out in to the main field again.
You then go across to a couple of othre fences (again very simple) and then you have another long climb up the hill to the last fence which is a chair fence. Nice and friendly but if your horse is not tip top fitness wise he will struggle without a lot of help from you.

The last time I went there and competed was in 04.

I have heard a few complaints that the take off's and landings aren't being looked after but that could be one little blip and they may have sorted that out now. However the same people who moan about it still go year after year so it can't be that bad

Lanhydrock is a lovely location and I think you should just walk it anyway because the bluebells are gorgeous at that time of the year.

Its well up to height and was always known as a strong course, although as m'learned colleague has said there's nothing trappy. The complaint I hear most often re the going is that the tree roots have become exposed on the approaches, however again as has already been said the people who make those complaints continue to go & compete there!!!
The reason I heard for there no longer being a B.E. event there was because of the long term damage to said trees & their roots. The land steward at Lanhydrock was becoming concerned, & wanted the fences moved out in to the open & away from the trees. B.E. weren't prepared to do that, so the affiliated event there came to an end.
