Hi, there is an ODE at Lanhydrock on the 24th and I can't decide whether or not to go and I need to decide quickly because the entries close on Friday. I have never been before and someone said that the course was really hard, in which case I dont think we would bother as we are still getting confidence! We would be doing the Intro course (although it is unaff). So just wanted your thoughts on it and whether it would be suitable for us (she is an ex-racehorse with loads of scope but she can get abit confussed by skinnies, it is not the height that bothers us, just how technical they are!).

Thanks very much!
Sam

It is not over technical. I haven't been for a few years but have heard the course is a little tired and the ground not great. I would try Pontispool first as probably the nicest of the two.

The intro and pre novice tracks at lanhydrock aren't particulary difficult to tell you the truth and not particulary technical. Before the days of intro the pre novice here was the first affiliated event i competed in..i wasn't that experienced and neither was horse but we managed a clear round! The showjumping is generally up to height and whilst the xc is large there are no real questions asked. The first 6 or so fences are pretty straight forward logs and rails then downhill to a water fence which is simply a log two strides and into the water with a small step out. From the water you then go up a long hill and into the woods where there is are a few steps, a coffin a ski jump, pheasant feeder etc then your nearly home!! Go for it its beautiful setting !!!

That was part of the problem, I don't know that Mum would be happy to give up her whole weekend carting up there and back on Saturday and Sunday!

Never been myself but know many that have. It's essentially spot on level for level as affiliated, which includes being reasonably well designed, built and maintained.
It's not a walk in the park though by all accounts, but then most the people I hear talk of it count Llanhydrock as their annual ambition, they are not affiliated people. I have heard people say the ground can be quite hard, but again I refer you to above. We don't have a lot of eventing down here. I am yet to get there, it remains my future ambition! (In my "veteran competing years", at least!) Snapshot photography have got photos up from the recent hunter trial - worth having a nose?

Thanks, I will have a look. Well, I am entered, I was beggining to chicken out but Mum and Rob had already got in an arguement about whether or not I should be able to go and then when I said to mum that i didn't mind not going she said she wasnt going to let Rob win so I had to! Oh well, if it is too huge I will stick to my good old trusty method of just shutting my eyes and kicking!
