went to see a horse tonight. he had a very large blood blister on shoulder right where saddle touches and two enlarged glands in his neck that felt hot. (she did say it was an heamotomous or something that sounded like that). i did not bother to ride him but the owner said that when she bought him last october he was vetted and they never bothered to note it as it is not a problem. maybe i am wrong but i would not have bought this horseand she was asking quite a bit of money for it. are these things a problem

A haemotoma is just a common or garden bruise. Probably nothing to worry about and probably will slowly be reabsorbed and disappear. Hot, swollen glands I'm not so sure about. If they are linked to the haemotoma then the horse could have had a kick that caused the bruise but also broke the skin somewhere and there's now an infection set in. Or it could be totally unrelated to the bruise! If I really liked the look of a horse a haemotoma wouldn't put me off at all but I'd want the swollen glands checked before purchase.

thanks for that i did like the horse but the haemotoma was huge like a tennis ball and exactly where the saddle would fit on the shoulder. the glands were really hot as well
