When we talk about teaching recall, people say find a big open ENCLOSED field or grassy area

WHERE do people find these places?!! the only big grassy places near me are parks, or national parks, etc which are nice for him running round, but NOT great to practice recall as if he doesnt want to come back, its not easy to stop him running around like a headless chicken (he never runs off, just not always comes back)

so I was wondering where people go to take their puppies to do this?! or is it mostly people who own farms who can do this?!

We have a field at the house. Although the forestry are felling at the moment and our fences have been brought down

Is there a farmer or a landowner you could approach as ask to borrow a field for a bit? Or any pals with an enclosed yard?

I use my horses field, it's all fenced with pretty high fencing, is there no where at your livery like this or do u have your own place like me?

some people I speak to use closed of kiddy play areas or tennis courts when they are empty of people of course

I've always wondered about those big fenced off water pumping stations and electricity huts - thought about ringing the utility companies and asking if they could let me in for an hour! Would probably be illegal under elf n' safety though...
Tennis court is a fab idea!

I dont have a horse, so I dont have a livery field (unfortunatly)

I cant ask the farmer where I got beau from, but tbh his fields are not particularly well fenced as most of them go up into lyme park (another national park!!!) and those that are have sheep in (not going there!)

Might try usign the menage at uni? would that be ok do you recon? or should I try to find somewhere even bigger? its difficult round me as there are not that many places that are not filled with animals!

Would he wiggle through post-and-rail? My smaller female can, easily.

Is there a training club near you? Our club has a big fenced off area so that none of the dogs can bugger off. We were actually working on recall with deliberate distraction yesterday, would have been perfect for you!

Ye post and rail is not really a challenge for him (stupid smart dog!)

Ye, that would have been perfect! I really need to get him working much better off the lead as he has gone really down hill over the past few weeks! (I was ill, and got sent to my OH's, stupid men! hehe JOKE)

When he was a puppy at puppy classes and we were first learning recall, other dogs in the hall, with toys food water etc spread around, and he didnt blink an eye at any of them and came straight to me!
then he grew up and went actually mum u suck!

There is a training club (well agility class) but they use a football field...... which I dont think is secure.........

We have lots of nature reserves locally which are all properly fenced as they sometimes have livestock in and are usually quite quiet. Great for letting them off the lead. They rotate the livestock so there's always a few fields that don't have anything in.

I use the field/paddock of a friend but you can use a long line just as effectively, not the extending leads but a long training lead or lunge line. It gives them the freedom to leg it about 30-50 feet and will give you a good starting point for recall.
