I hope someone has come across this before. My 10 year old TB gelding has developed two large (6" diameter by 1" in thickness) lumps behind his girth and in front of his belly. There is one on each side so they look like a matching pair. He is quite fit and they don't seem to be giving him any pain otherwise I would have called the vet.

Can anyone tell me what is causing them please.

They may be possible bites from insects? My mares get them all throughout summer and cause no pain or problems and disappear in a week or two! I have always put it down to bites as they aren't hard and do disappear :)

Have you started riding in different boots with a fabric/leather dressing that he is intolerant of, or a different girth that is overgirthed?

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I have just put him on to haylage so I expect that is the reason. They are too large for insect bites and I have not changed his tack or my riding kit.
