My horse has a really strange large lump about size of my hand and about 1cm protruding come up underneath his belly on his RHS. It starts a good few inches behind where the girth sits. It has no heat and absolutely no reaction at all from my horse and he is usually super sensitive! It doesn't feel particularly hard or fluidy it's just a strange lump which size is alarming me. No marks or bites or anything I can see. I do wonder if he's kicked a fly off his belly perhaps?! Any ideas?

Sounds like a heamatoma (sp?) which is basically a fulid filled lump from a kick or some other trauma. However an internet guess from the other side of the world, is very hit and miss. A quick phone call to your local vet might be the way to go.

Mine had a tummy of golf balls today. I'm assuming at this stage a nasty reaction to flies/Mosquitos - so have slathered with cream and will re-assess tomorrow.

Keep your eye on it. My mare had these end of last year (pitting oedema) and they were the result of an unknown virus. She had other (not hugely obvious) symptoms which resulted in her requiring a lot of veterinary treatment. Sorry, I don't want to alarm you, but just watch out for other signs such as slightly watery poos and general listlessness. Hope it's nothing to worry about.

Hi yes of course I will keep an eye out for any other symptoms and will get vet if no change just thought i'd post on a Sunday eve to see if I was along the right line. He was kicking his belly like crazy at the flies at show on Saturday so my best guess would be its something to do with the raging insects atm! nightmare!
