Are there any such things in the area?

I have to go out that way for half a day in a couple of weeks, but have to take a full day's holiday, so I'm hoping there may be some horsey superstores to browse around!

There's a Wynnstay in Oswestry and 'Charlies'/Coed Y Dinas on the outskirts of Welshpool if you're willing to travel that far, but I wouldn't call either of them equine superstores. ;)

Out of the two, I would go to Charlies as it has other stuff there too (the building on the left is the country store with the horse bit and the building on the right has a garden centre with lots of other shopping plus a cafe and loos) and Powis Castle is opposite.

Echo Charlies; there's also one of them in Shrewsbury although it doesn't have a great deal but plenty of bargains to be had - usually! Both the Countrywide and Wynnstay Stores in Whitchurch are a bit of a let down though CW does have a fair feed selection too.
There's Edgemere at Hampton Heath by Malpas, just down the A41 from Whitchurch http://www.edgemere.co.uk/ and just around the corner from them is Corbetts where you can get most feeds and supplements too.

If you can go a little further afield from Oswestry, there's a good tack shop in The Plassey (will be signed from the main Oswestry - Wrexham road) http://www.plassey.com/retail-village/directory/

CW is rubbish whichever you go to in this area! I went to the Newport one last night and it's cr@p, don't know why I bother. I can't get on with Wynnstay at all, they also seem to have v little and are really expensive.

Charlie's in Welshpool is supposed to be great, and apparently they do really good cheesey chips in the cafe!! :D

Welshpool is a little way out... however might be worth a trip out. Depends on what time I finish the task I have to do, looks like I might as well just go into Shrewsbury for some lunch and early Xmas shopping!

If you are coming down to Shrewsbury from Whitchurch, try the Stables Saddlery in Hadnall - there's a small no through road on the left just before you hit the village, just after the signs for Sansaw. Not a superstore but a tack shop and well worth supporting against the big guys/mail order stuff :)

There's also Startlewood Feeds in Nescliffe near Shrewsbury. It's a small family run shop but I always enjoy going as well as the one in Hadnall.

I forgot about The Stables! Definitely worth a visit. They have loads of stuff and always some good deals. I bought my tweed competition jacket from there last year and they did me a good deal on it, cheaper than online. They have a good range of stuff, loads of rugs, every type of body protector you can imagine, all sorts of random little trinkets (good for stocking fillers at Xmas!) and the staff are really good too.
