^ Me on my old TB- he was 15.2hh ish, and about 26 in this photo. I'm probably near what you weigh and he never complained- and he wasn't a horse who kept his complaints to himself about carrying weight... Apparently one man turned up and Cheeky nearly fell over when he got on, and he can't have been much more than me!

Go and see, and see how you feel about it. You'll know, looking at photos and how you felt, if you're too big. Maybe phone and explain your worries- we did that recently and she was pleased we'd explained our situation and replied very honestly.

ETA- Cheeky was a very 'solid' TB as far as that goes I think and quite small... Almost like he had pit pony in there somewhere!

thanks he sounds like my dream horse after my crazy cob has been a nightmare for past few months i just dont want to turn up and my weight completely put me off even trying him x fab pick i would never have guessed he was 26 looking great x

Definitely phone the seller and explain your worries. When we phoned about Cheeky, we said I was 5'2 and a size 16- would this be too much. Got told to come and see, and it wasn't. Oddly, I'd feel far too big on my sister's TB, who is 16.3hh and isn't lacking bone as he's just a bit narrower proportionately.

Depends on the horse really (i.e. back problems, been out of work, sway back, etc). My TB is 15.3, not an ultra fine type but not heavy boned either and she has no trouble carrying 5'9", 13 1/2 stone me at all plus my heavy side saddle tack (I mostly only ride side saddle now). We hack miles to shows and were out cantering and jumping ditches today! We both are fit however (I ride my bike miles each day plus I do Aqua Tone twice a week, plus riding/mucking out, etc) and Hattie is worked nearly everyday.

This is us at our last show the other week:

I'd say go see him and see how you both get on. :)

thanks hes never been raced as far as owners are aware hes in full work ie 5-6 times a week so is quite fit and toned, hes never had a history of back problems hes a very chilled out boy not tbish at all x

I have a 16.2 ex national hunt gelding..I'm 5'6 and 13 and half stone roughly... I tend to stay away from the scales! Haha my boy carries me fine I've never felt too big and no one has ever said anything about it either! Good luck hope it works out well for you!

My finer TB takes my OH at 14.5 st no problem

As others have said, express your concerns with the seller :)

ETA - forgot to mention the horse is 17.3hh :D

You'll be fine. You'll know when you sit on him if it feels right or not but we have some *ek hem* heavy riders riding out at work and these are stripped fit racehorses. I'm not a fan of them on the smaller horses but the horses don't complain!
